White Sox Clock Giveaway Is Hugely Popular

The White Sox had a pretty imaginative giveaway with their Ken “Hawk” Harrelson talking alarm clock, and it turned out to be a fan favorite. Harrelson, a former MLB player currently known to the White Sox faithful as the voice in the broadcast booth for the last three decades, received 100 of the clocks.

“When they first told me about it, I said, ‘That’s a pretty neat idea,'” he told the Daily Herald. “As it turned out, it has grown. This thing has a little bit of a life of its own. I know MLB and some of the other networks, they have been promoting the heck out of it as well.”

He added that he’s gotten about 400 requests from people all over the country asking for the clock. He even received a few requests from as far as Venezuela.

“I told them buy a ticket to the game,” he said. “That’s the only way you are going to get one.”

If the crowd of more than 29,000 fans for the giveaway night was any indication, that’s a home run of a giveaway for the White Sox.

Also, the clocks are already up on the likes of eBay.

(Brendan’s trivia: Hawk Harrelson is credited for being the first person to wear batting gloves after wearing a golf glove to bat. You can thank me when that’s an answer on “Jeopardy!”)
