WWE Pulls Shirt After Pabst Blue Ribbon Threatens Legal Action

PM053116_JohnCenaTo commemorate Memorial Day, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced a new shirt depicting wrestling superstar John Cena with a patriotic-themed backdrop. With the red, white and blue backdrop and themes of loyalty and respect, it looked like a perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day. However, beer drinkers might be able to spot its similarity to Pabst Blue Ribbon’s logo. Pabst Blue Ribbon certainly did.

According to WhatCulture, WWE debuted the T-shirt design on Twitter, and Pabst Blue Ribbon quickly replied on Twitter with the image of Cena wearing the T-shirt and another image of Cena wearing a Pabst Blue Ribbon T-shirt to show the similarity. (They also threw in a couple of wrestling jokes for good measure.)

WWE responded by pulling the T-shirt design from WWEShop.com on Saturday. The organization hasn’t issued an official statement, but WhatCulture speculated that it won’t be able to fulfill orders that were placed during the short period of time that the shirt was available for sale. There are similar Cena-themed shirts available, but without the logo resembling Pabst Blue Ribbon’s.
