What Do I Want My Life to Look Like?

In a previous Promo Marketing Rant, I reflected on the concept of Life is Good. What makes a good life? Is it lots of money to buy “stuff” you want? Does having well trained dogs make a good life? (I wouldn’t know much about that. We love our dogs, but it’s for their wacky personalities, not their manners.) Or, is a good life made up of faith, family and friends?

Having returned from the Sail to Success Cruise to the Bahamas I’ve had a chance to reflect on the good life a bit. We had a GREAT time and based on the response from those on the cruise, the trip was a hit.

Ron Baron, who presented education, was outstanding as usual. He reflected on the question, What Do I Want My Life to Look Like? Ron shared personal stories on how growing his business negatively affected his family. During the critical years of his kids growing up, Ron had to tell his kids things like, “Sorry, I couldn’t make your 10 year old birthday party. I’ve got to work, but I’m doing it for you. In this video, he shares that To Be More Successful…You Must Work Less!

At one time, Ron was estranged from his daughter Robyn, but now they were together on this cruise. Robyn handled much of the logistics and administrative processes for the trip. It was nice to get to know her and spend some quality time with Ron as well. Ron is a popular educator and we have worked together for years. This time on the ship away from a business setting strengthened our friendship.

In talking with my wife on this topic, I confessed that I’m not doing a great job at working less. Part of that is I love what I do. But I’ve got to get a handle how much time I work. To my credit (pat on the back), I do some awesome things with my son and we have a great relationship, but as a family we can do better. Perhaps some of you can relate?

On the cruise, Michael Crooks shared on thinking Inside the Box and David Hawes talked about Prosperity Loafing. The education content presented was thought stimulating and beneficial.

In an odd sort of way, a cruise setting nurtures strong relationships in a relatively short time. The positive connections made on this trip will last. A few large businesses were represented, as well as smaller size companies from all across the country. It was a great mix of people. We learned from each other and had a blast. On International Talk Like a Pirate Day, my new friend Sean Roark, CPIM from IncentPros in Texas, shared this classic industry line on pricing.

We did some fun clips with promotional products throughout the week. In a situation you couldn’t possibly script, here we show Dana Zezzo illustrating the power of Jetline promotional products. I’ve dubbed this, The Buff Dana, the Lifeguard and the Blond. We also filmed our supporting suppliers products in unique ways that showcased products in a fun, unique way.

In this video from Senior Frogs in Nassau, Bahamas, World Wide Mystique Mugs show how they can create memorable branding opportunities. We showcase the value of branding on useful products like sunscreen from Admints, CleenFreek Towels from Pro Towels Etc. and themed note pads from Warwick. Many overlook the value of personalized products, like those that were provided by Vault Promotions, which we showcase in the video, Your Name Is?

Throughout the education sessions, we touched on the idea of how we could have more freedom in our lives. In this video clip Leslie Roark from PromoPros in Texas asked Ron Baron, how can you hand over clients to staff. The goal of course is to have more freedom to do the things you want to do.

We had the support of couple of great distributors as well. Thanks AIA and Vernon for understanding the value of education and relationship building in a unique setting like this. In this clip Rick Yood from the Vernon Company shares about The Good Life.

We’ve highlighted some of the teaching, social interaction and supplier product spotlights from the cruise on the Sail to Success page of FreePromoTips.com. These videos will give you a taste of what happened on our trip to the Bahamas. We hope some of you will join us on our next adventure!

What do you want your life to look like? The choice is yours of course. We understand that not everyone can get away on a motivational cruise like the one a few folks just took, but you can take short breaks and spend some time focusing on where you want to go with your life and business.

Your life will look better if you get connected with your colleagues through your local Regional Association. In January we have the opportunity to experience education, networking and relationship building all at the PPAI Expo. This the industry’s can’t miss event. I believe life is good if you if you take advantage of all that is available to you within our industry.
