6 Off-kilter ‘Star Wars’ Promotions

After much anticipation, “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” opens in theaters this week. In all of the hype around the blockbuster, promotional items from T-shirts to fruits have hit shelves. Here are six “Star Wars” promotional items that stood out to us.

1. BB-8 Oranges
One of the new droids that we’ve seen in trailers is the BB-8, a cute, spherical droid. Naturally, marketers saw the appeal of the little guy, and drew the natural connection between the space robot and common oranges.

2. Lightsaber Chopsticks
Lightsabers are one of the more recognizable items in the “Star Wars” universe, but we can’t really imagine that highly trained Jedi knights are using them to eat. That said, we wouldn’t mind taking a pair of Skywalker-themed chopsticks to our favorite sushi joint.

3. “Star Wars” Fishing Tackle
For when we can’t force-lift fish out of the water, this fishing set includes a “Star Wars”-themed tackle box and a fishing rod modeled after Darth Vader’s classic red lightsaber. (Making a lightsaber noise when casting is optional, but encouraged.)

4. “Light Side” and “Dark Side” Ice Cream
It’s a struggle that every force-sensitive creature in the “Star Wars” universe must deal with—stay the course of the Jedi on the Light Side of the force, or join the Sith on the Dark Side? Luckily, we on Earth can choose both with these two ice cream flavors from Ample Hills Creamery. The “Light Side” is a marshmallow ice cream with cocoa pieces. The “Dark Side” is dark chocolate ice cream with espresso fudge brownies, cocoa pieces and white chocolate pearls.

5. C-3PO Nightlight
Kids love C-3P0 because of his funny scaredy-cat persona and goofy antics, but we’re not sure how many kids would want the droid busting through their walls like some space-age Kool-Aid Man. This 3-D nightlight includes a cracked sticker so it looks like C-3P0 is physically breaking through the wall, with his glowing eyes staring through the dark.

6. Brooklyn Nets Jedi Bobblehead
We imagine that it must be pretty cool to have a bobblehead of yourself. The Brooklyn Nets’ Brook Lopez not only was immortalized in bobblehead form—his figurine was dressed as a Jedi Knight. The Nets gave out the “Star Wars”-themed item as part of its Star Wars Night on Dec. 14.
