Debco, Concord, Ontario, announced that it is recalling its Tonal Thirst Mug because the handle may break off when in use.
Debco recommended in a press release that end-users immediately stop using the mugs and contact their distributors. Distributors who sold the mug should contact their clients and inform them of the recall. Debco also said that it will offer replacement mugs (without imprints) of a higher value at no charge.
“Through this voluntary recall, we are exercising an abundance of caution in the very rare instance that someone is injured through the use of this mug,” Daniel Baker, marketing manager for Debco, said. “We are working closely with both U.S. and Canadian federal agencies to make sure we are taking every step possible to eliminate this risk, and, as such, we have created a clear, complete and streamlined process with which to do so.”
The recall involves 150 mugs sold in the U.S. and 24,000 sold in Canada. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Debco received one report of a burn injury as a result of the mug’s handle breaking.
“Debco stands resolved in our commitment to our distributor-partners and their clients in this matter,” Stan Gallen, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Debco, said in a statement. “We deeply regret any inconvenience this voluntary recall will cause, and pledge to make amends in the most fair and expedient manner possible.”
