Best Buy Starts Using Recyclable Gift Cards

In an effort to be more green with its promotional products, Best Buy started using a gift card that’s completely recyclable.

The “Go Green” gift card is made of paper, so customers can toss it right in their recycling bins when they’re done using them. Traditional PVC cards typically are not accepted in city recycling programs.

“By using paper, we want to help reduce the amount of plastic that’s thrown out,” Best Buy said in a statement to EPR Retail News.

In order to create the recyclable card, Best Buy used paper that is Forest Stewardship Council-certified and printed with water-soluble ink, rather than solvent-based ink. Finally, the company used water-soluble glue to adhere the front to the back.

“We’re talking sustainability from start to finish,” the company added in the statement.
