The owners of Union, Illinois-based supplier Bag Makers have entered their personal racehorse into the Kentucky Derby. Take Charge Indy, owned by Maribeth and Chuck Sandford, will be running in the 138th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 5.
Take Charge Indy qualified for the Kentucky Derby by pulling off an upset in the $1 Million Florida Derby in late March. Taking the mount for Take Charge Indy will be Calvin Borel, rider of three of the past five Kentucky Derby winners.
“We’re absolutely thrilled,” said Chuck Sandford. “Take Charge Indy is bred like royalty and pulled off an upset to earn his way to Churchill Downs. This is a once in a lifetime experience and we’re so happy to be a part of it.”
