Lithium ion batteries aren’t just a problem for electronic devices like smartphones and computers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Boosted, Mountain View, Calif., is recalling its electric-powered skateboards because the lithium ion battery pack can overheat and smoke, causing a fire hazard.
We saw a few of these skateboards at the PPAI expo in Las Vegas last week, and these outdoor products, like bicycles, surfboards and snowboards, are present in the promotional product space.
Boosted has received two reports of the battery packs overheating and smoking, but hasn’t received any injury reports.
The CPSC recommended that all customers immediately stop using the skateboards and contact Boosted for a free replacement battery pack.
