ECORITE, a Toronto-based supplier of eco-friendly products, introduced seven new bags, ranging from a shopping tote and carryall to messenger bag and lunch bag. All bags are made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled and scrap plastic bottles.
For the company, it is a good sign that technology is meeting environmental concerns. Through the process of recycling, sterilizing, crushing, melting and spinning plastic, ECOLINE can create its ECOTEXX fabric—a durable, lightweight, woven fabric similar in look and feel to non-woven material.
“As consumer use of these bags grow, the burden on the world’s landfills and demand of natural resources will be lifted significantly,” said ECORITE founder and president Brij Kapur. “This is a responsible start in the viable use of recycled post-consumer plastic containers,” added Kapur.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 380 billion plastic bags are consumed in the United States each year. From weekly use of one recycled bag, each person has the potential to divert hundreds, if not thousands, of plastic bags from landfills over its lifetime.
ECORITE is also a proud supporter of the World Wildlife Fund and donates one percent of all sales to the cause.
