The Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica recently presented Gill Studios, Lenexa, Kan., with two “Best of Category” awards at the 2011 GraphEx Graphic Excellence Awards Gala. Entries were judged first on technical complexity and the quality of printing, then on design features and overall appearance.
The two prize-winning offset printed submissions showcased Gill Studios’ long-standing history of producing quality products suitable for high honors. To take advantage of the burgeoning iPod market, M & M’s Brand Chocolate Candies commissioned a custom printed “skin” from a white vinyl sheet with different cutouts designed to adhere to an iPod Touch, Classic or Nano. Musically inclined M & M characters were arranged on the skins to brand their product while protecting a valuable investment. DTE Energy created a unique visual effect with a custom lenticular post card. Using both animation and flip effects, the piece created user interaction while educating about the process of geothermal energy in the home.
To ensure fair and unbiased results, all entries were judged by a team of top graphic arts and print experts commissioned outside the association. All “Best of Category” entries will be entered in the national Printing Industries of America Premier Print Awards.
