Leading up to chart-topping musician John Mayer’s show at Madison Square Garden this week, the New York Police Department has teamed up with Live Nation to crack down on street vendors selling bootleg Mayer merchandise outside of the venue.
According to TMZ, Live Nation—the entertainment company that merged with Ticketmaster—secured a temporary restraining order, banning street vendors from making, distributing or selling merchandise with Mayer’s logo or likeness 4 hours before or after his show on April 5. This order covers a 4-mile radius around the Manhattan venue.
What’s more, TMZ reported that the NYPD has a special task force in place to deal with issues, called the “MSG Team,” who plan to seize any counterfeit merchandise.
A lot of artists have taken more serious action to cut down on bootleg sales outside of shows. Just last year AC/DC had U.S. marshals on site to stop people from selling bootleg gear outside of shows.
