RR Donnelley & Sons Company, Chicago, announced that its Crawfordsville, Ind., North Plant location has been recommended for certification to Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), which reflects excellence in occupational safety and health management systems. This certification would represent the fifth VPP Star Status certification for RR Donnelley and complements the Star Status certification achieved by the Crawfordsville South Plant in 2011.
“Safety is the most important measure of operational excellence,” said Dan Knotts, RR Donnelley’s chief operating officer. “Our written safety programs serve as a foundation for a safe work place, but it is exceptional management commitment, strong employee engagement, and the individual ownership of safety as a core value that produces such outstanding results.”
Star certification is the highest certification level granted by OSHA and is awarded only after organizations complete an application process and undergo a rigorous onsite evaluation conducted by a team of health and safety professionals. These VPP certifications signify the implementation of effective health and safety management systems and injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for the printing industry.
Michael Manzella, RR Donnelley’s senior vice president of environmental, health, safety and quality added, “This recommendation demonstrates exceptional teamwork, innovation and attention to detail. We are proud of our employees’ safety record worldwide and especially pleased that our team in Crawfordsville has been recognized with this important distinction.”
