USPS Introduces Augmented Reality App for Holidays

The United States Postal Service (USPS) introduced a fun augmented reality smartphone app, Delivercheer.com, to spur business and add a bit of holiday cheer to the process of mailing items.

To use it, people pick up a Priority Mail box, and can choose between two animated messages: a reindeer or a penguin.

“Our app adds that special touch by delivering cheer when mailing and receiving holiday hits via Priority Mail,” USPS chief customer and marketing officer and executive vice president James Cochrane said in a press release. “In addition to offering this entertaining app, Delivercheer.com allows you to buy stamps, order free boxes, schedule a free package pickup, find post office and collection box locations, and determine mailing dates.”

Last year, according to Mashable, USPS ran a similar augmented reality campaign that was “Peanuts”-themed.

This app is sure to give people shipping items during the holiday season that extra push to use the USPS.
