Selling Lessons from Black Friday

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

On this glorious November Wednesday, I thought I’d feed you some promotional ideas. It is too late for turkey-day sales this year, but that doesn’t mean you cannot use the cranberry-sauce holiday of thanks as inspiration for your current programs.

Sweets and Eats
Though Thanksgiving is more about spending time with loved ones than downing exorbitant amounts of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, that doesn’t stop people from doing it. The lesson here: people love food. Especially themed food. Give a company a cookie with its logo on it, and it will be yours.

Put a Bow on It
Packaging makes a difference, especially when it comes to holiday promotions. Add a nice gift box, card and bow and your clients and their customers will notice.

The Black Friday Method
The hype around Black Friday creates suspense and the feeling that it is the only day to get those deals, though many last through the end of December. You can use this method to increase your 2011 intake by promising holiday-season prices and specials. Consumers are already in purchasing mode for the holidays so they might see your offer as a must-have deal.

English Settler Style
When in doubt, dress like a pilgrim.

Shake yourself out of your dopamine coma and gobble up sales before New Year’s. Also, have a happy Thanksgiving!
