Motivation Doesn’t Work

Let’s face it. Almost everyone wants to change something in their lives, right? Whether it’s their income, weight, relationships or bad habits, they hope to find the “motivation” to make the changes they want in their lives. But motivation doesn’t work. It’s actually pretty clear by this time of the year. We are six months into 2017. How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? Motivation doesn’t work.

Oh, motivation feels good in the moment. Listening to a motivational speaker feels good. Reading a motivational book feels good. Making New Year’s resolutions feels good. But the feeling doesn’t last.

When it’s time to do the hard work and make the tough choices that need to be made to change our income, weight, relationships and bad habits… motivation doesn’t show up. Motivation alone just doesn’t work.

What works is discipline. Now that doesn’t sound as much fun as motivation. But discipline is the only thing that can truly effect long-term change because it’s the only thing that can truly impact our choices. And what we achieve in our lives will be the result of the choices we make.

Motivation doesn’t work. Only discipline endures.

So how do we make discipline in our lives simple? How do we make it easy? Stay tuned. I will share one of my favorite tricks to making discipline work for you.
