Repeat Jobs: Let’s Look at Real Numbers

At Wise, we like to talk about jobs that offer recurring revenue. These are jobs that are sold once, then repeat over and over. As long as you are taking care of the account, there is little more to do. The job repeats on its own and you reap the benefits, sometimes for years.

Does this sound too good to be true? We decided to pull some real numbers from our sales reports to prove it.

  • Over the last 10 years, we’ve had more than 17,500 jobs that have repeated at least once.
  • Of those, there are more than 500 jobs that have repeated more than 20 times. This represents hundreds of print resellers to hundreds of end-users.
  • The winner for repeat jobs? Two resellers essentially tied—one job with 104 repeats and another with 110 repeats!

What types of jobs are these? Hang onto your hats. Don’t spill your coffee. These numbers come from the business forms side of the business. Yes, that’s right. Business forms, the category that is supposed to be dying. While it’s true that business forms are not a growing category, they are still being sold, and profitably.

These numbers tell the story.

Real Jobs, Real Repeats

What are these repeat jobs that are bringing in such long-term revenue for resellers? Let’s look at some examples:

  • Distributor A sold RX scripts for a drug store chain in 2020. That job has since repeated 78 times.
  • Distributor B sold laser pick tickets in 2013. Since that time, the job has repeated 39 times.
  • Distributor C sold accounts payable checks in 2013. Since that time, the job has repeated 42 times.
  • Distributor D sold postcard invoices in 2013. Since then, that job has repeated 92 times.

Whether it’s cut sheet, continuous form, unit sets, or checks, these are jobs for which resellers have been receiving recurring revenue for over a decade.

Over a Decade of Revenue

So when we talk about recurring revenue from print jobs, we’re not just promoting “pie in the sky” ideas. These are real jobs that really “sell once, reap the revenue” for years. It’s not magic, and it’s not luck. It just takes perseverance in finding the right applications—and sometimes those jobs are found in categories you might not expect.
