The Pennsylvania Democratic primary finally arrived, and it’s good to see the promotional products industry is so relevant on a national (and, dare I say, international) stage. I’m, of course, talking about the flag-shaped lapel pin scandal which is sweeping the nation (for a second time). Poor Senator Obama can’t seem to catch a break on this one. First it was on. Then it was off. And, now, apparently it’s back on again. People are latching onto the issue to say he isn’t patriotic. That he hates America (as if the act of running for the presidency doesn’t earn you any patriotic points).
I’m hesitant to say it’s just a pin because the flag is a symbol that carries so much meaning to so many. I like the flag and actually have a similar pin stuck into my cube wall. It holds up a sheet of paper with editors abbreviations on it. But, with that said, part of me really feels it’s just a pin. If I take mine down, does it mean I’m not patriotic? If someone puts on two, are they twice as patriotic as they were before?
I was just wondering if anyone else had thoughts on it. Just a pin? Symbol of something bigger? Or, is the issue just worth discussing anymore?
